Reel in Fun on Cape Cod's Inshore Waters

Hey there, fellow fishing enthusiasts! Ready to cast a line in some of the most productive inshore waters around? Our 5-hour Cape Cod fishing charters are perfect for anglers of all levels, especially families looking to introduce the kiddos to the joys of saltwater fishing. We'll be targeting a mix of tasty species like porgies, sea bass, striped bass, and bluefish, depending on what's biting. Trust me, there's nothing quite like the smile on a child's face when they reel in their first keeper – and hey, you might even score dinner in the process!

What to Expect on the Water

Our trips are all about having a good time while wetting a line. We'll cruise out to some prime fishing spots, and I'll share some local knowledge to boost your chances of landing a nice catch. Don't sweat the gear – we've got you covered with all the rods, reels, and bait you'll need. Plus, your fishing license is included, so you can focus on the fun stuff. Just remember to bring some cash to tip our hardworking first mate – 20% is the norm around here, and trust me, they earn every penny helping you land those fish!

Fishing Techniques & Hot Spots

We use a mix of techniques to target different species throughout the day. For porgies and sea bass, we'll often drift over structure and use bottom rigs with squid or clams. When we're after stripers or blues, we might troll with tube-and-worm rigs or cast lures around the shoreline. I'll show you the ropes, so even if you're new to this, you'll be fishing like a pro in no time. We hit different spots based on the tides and what's biting, but some favorite areas include Buzzards Bay, Vineyard Sound, and the backside beaches – each offering its own unique fishing experience.

Top Catches This Season

Cape Cod's inshore waters are teeming with life, and we've been having a blast out there lately. Porgies have been thick in certain areas, providing non-stop action for anglers of all ages. The sea bass fishing has been on fire, with some real bruisers in the 4-5 pound range coming over the rails. And let's not forget about the stripers – we've been finding some solid keepers, with a few over 40 inches making appearances. The bluefish have also been around in good numbers, offering some drag-screaming fights that'll get your heart racing!

Species You'll Want to Hook

Striped Bass: The crown jewel of Cape Cod fishing, stripers are hard-fighting and great-eating fish that can reach impressive sizes. They typically show up in May and stick around through October. These line-sided beauties love to hang around structure and can be caught on a variety of baits and lures. There's nothing quite like the thrill of a big striper crushing a topwater plug!

Scup (Porgies): These tasty panfish are perfect for introducing kids to fishing. They're abundant, easy to catch, and put up a surprisingly good fight for their size. Scup usually arrive in May and stay through September. They're often found over rocky bottom or near pier pilings, eagerly gobbling up small baits. Their flaky white meat is delicious when fried up fresh!

Bluefish: If you're after a true battle on light tackle, bluefish are your target. These toothy predators are known for their aggressive strikes and blistering runs. Blues typically show up in May and hang around until October. They're often found in schools, creating exciting blitzes on the surface. While they have a strong flavor, bluefish are excellent when prepared properly – try them smoked or grilled with a zesty marinade.

Black Sea Bass: These structure-loving fish are not only beautiful but also some of the best eating you'll find in these waters. Sea bass season usually runs from May through December, with the biggest fish often caught early in the season. They love to hang around wrecks, reefs, and rocky areas. When you hook into a big "knucklehead" (local slang for a large male sea bass), you're in for a treat both on the line and on the plate!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Folks love our trips because we keep things fun and laid-back while still putting you on the fish. It's not about fancy boats or high-tech gear – it's about creating memories and maybe landing a few "keeper" stories to share back home. Plus, the waters around Cape Cod are just plain gorgeous. Even on slower fishing days, you can't beat cruising along our picturesque coastline, watching for seals, birds, and maybe even a whale spout in the distance.

Time to Book Your Spot

If you're itching to get out on the water and experience some of Cape Cod's world-class inshore fishing, now's the time to lock in your trip. Our 5-hour charters are perfect for families, groups of friends, or anyone looking to make the most of their time on the Cape. Remember, we can only take up to 6 guests, so spots fill up fast – especially during peak season. Give us a call, and we'll get you set up with everything you need for a day of fishing, fun, and hopefully some fresh fillets for dinner. See you on the water!

Learn more about the species

Black Sea Bass

Black sea bass are bottom-dwellers with attitude, hanging around rocky structure and wrecks. Most run 1-4 pounds, but they can hit 8 pounds in deeper water. You'll find them from late spring through fall, often in 30-120 feet of water. Sea bass put up a good scrap and are excellent eating - mild, white, and flaky. They're not picky eaters, so squid, clams, or cut bait all work well. Use a two-hook rig with a sinker to get down where they live. An interesting fact: they're all born female and some change to males as they get bigger. For the best action, drift over structure and keep your bait close to the bottom. When you find a school, you can often catch a bunch before they wise up.

Black Sea Bass

Bluefish

Bluefish are the bad boys of the bay - aggressive, toothy, and always ready for a fight. They show up in June and stick around through October, typically 3-10 pounds but sometimes over 20. Blues love to chase bait in shallow water, often creating frenzied "blitzes" visible from shore. They'll hit just about any lure or bait, but watch your fingers - those teeth are no joke. Summer is prime time, especially on sunny days with a light chop. Blues are fun to catch but can be oily to eat. If you keep some, bleed them right away and get them on ice. For the best action, look for birds working over bait schools and cast metal lures or topwater plugs into the fray. It's fast, exciting fishing that'll keep you on your toes.

Bluefish

Scup

Scup, or porgies, are fun little battlers that hang out near the bottom in rocky areas. They're usually 8-12 inches long but can reach 18 inches and 4 pounds. You'll find them close to shore from May through October before they head south for winter. Scup are easy to catch, making them perfect for kids or beginners. Use small hooks with squid or clams and fish right on the bottom. They travel in schools, so when you find one, you've found a bunch. The meat is tasty but a bit bony. Pro tip: try a light wire leader since their teeth can slice through mono. Best part is, you can usually catch your limit pretty quick for a fresh fish dinner.

Scup

Striped Bass

Striped bass are a prized catch around Cape Cod, typically weighing 20-40 pounds but sometimes topping 70. You'll find them cruising near shore structures like reefs and sandbars, especially in moving water. These powerful swimmers put up an exciting fight. Spring and fall are prime seasons as they migrate along the coast. Stripers love to chase baitfish, so look for birds diving or bait jumping to find feeding schools. For the best shot at a big one, try live eels or chunked mackerel at dusk or dawn. The meat is sweet and flaky - great for grilling. A local trick is to fish the outgoing tide around jetties or rip lines where stripers ambush bait getting swept out. Just be careful handling them - those gill plates are sharp!
